8 Reasons Why You Need an Event Website

Several couples often choose to have a wedding website where they can communicate all their event needs. But do all events need an event website? If you’re hosting a conference, an expo, an awards night, a concert, or any other type of event, does it need a website too?

If you aren’t too sure whether or not your event needs one, here are eight reasons having an event website can be a huge plus to your event:

1. An Event Website is Your One-Stop Shop for All Event Information

I’m a firm supporter of event websites simply because it curates all your information in one place. It’s hard to have bits and pieces of information in different places, which requires your attendees to kook for all the information by themselves. That can cause a lot of miscommunication and confusion.

Though you can communicate event updates through different social media channels—Facebook posts, Instagram live, etc.—it’s best to give your event a little home on the web where you can place everything your participants need to know.

You can upload the latest posters, announcements, and even changes your event has gone through. Your participants can also browse your event website for the program, list of speakers, workshop topics, and other event info.

You can also integrate a registration form and ticket sales page into your event website. These days, most people like doing things online, so they don’t have to go through the hassle of picking up their tickets somewhere else. When attendees buy tickets directly from your event website, it feels more personalised. They also won’t need to worry about the hassle of picking up tickets elsewhere or being redirected to a third-party site that feels a little bit scammy.

2. An Event Website Builds Excitement Around Your Event

An event website doesn’t just help provide information about your event, but it also showcases your company or organisation’s brand. It’s a powerful tool that stirs excitement and causes some noise. Think of an event website as a marketing weapon you wield to build buzz around your event. It may take some time to set up, but when it is running smoothly, it will leave an impact on your participants, partners, and sponsors.

3. An Event Website Focuses on Your Event Alone

The challenge with social media and other channels is that they can be so cluttered that your attendees miss out on important announcements and details. Scroll through Facebook to check out the latest updates from an event you’ll be attending in a few weeks, and you’ll find yourself distracted with a funny video or some cute puppy pics.

Event websites, however, are all just about the event. It gives your participants and other website visitors a laser focus on what is happening in your event without getting distracted by anything and everything else.

4. An Event Website Showcases Your Partners and Sponsors

When running an event with partners and sponsors, you want to highlight them without making it seem awkward by constantly uploading their logo on social media posts. With your own event website, you can give your partners and sponsors a little space of their own where they can talk about their product or service and what they do.

Participants who want to know more can click around and engage with them directly, something your partners and sponsors will appreciate. When the event day comes, your participants are already familiar with your partners and sponsors and can have fun visiting booths and interacting with the people behind them.

5. An Event Website Captures Potential Participants Who May Not Yet Have Heard of Your Event

These days, people turn to Google for anything—including events that could interest them. With proper keywords in place, potential participants who weren’t following your brand could hear about your event and decide to attend.

An event website gives you an online presence beyond your usual followers. By having one, you are going where your attendees are and inviting them to where they can reach you. Who knows? They might eventually become some of your most loyal followers.

6. An Event Website Builds Engagement and Connections

While people attend events to learn, they also go to meet other people. Why not let your participants start networking and building connections, even before your event? It enhances the event experience and adds to the excitement. Integrate a networking platform into your event website and engage with your participants before, during, and after the event. Allow them to connect with others, too.

7. An Event Website Provides Attendees with Answers to Questions

It can be tiring to type out one answer after another when people inquire about your event. With an event website, you can have a “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) page, which your attendees can refer to if there is something else they want to know. That way, you (or someone from your team) won’t have to spend precious hours answering one inquiry after another, and you can use the time to prepare for the event and make it even better.

8. An Event Website Can Help You Organise Better Events in the Future

When you build an event website, you can install the right tools to track the data you need. You’ll get to see trends in your attendees and site visitors, which can help you create better events in the future.

The analytics you get from your event website can help you with the various aspects of event management, including marketing, registration, promotions, sponsorships, and more.

Where Can I Make an Event Website?

Fortunately, even if you do not know how to make an event website, the internet is rich with resources just a few clicks away.

If You Have Some Basic Knowledge of Building Websites

If you have a little knowledge of creating websites (or knowing someone who does), you can buy a domain name from NameCheap and hosting space from Lyrical Host.

I recommend NameCheap because their domains are cheaper than others (such as GoDaddy, for example). It’s also easy to use and renew my domains (if necessary, unless you need one for just a few weeks or months). And because you need good customer service when it comes to events, NameCheap has wonderful customer service.

That is the very reason why I recommend Lyrical Host as well. I use their hosting space for all my websites. What I like about them is that they are upfront with their plans. No hidden charges. No paying a super-cheap fee for your first year and then seeing the costs balloon after a year or three years (like Bluehost and SiteGround). Plus, they have super responsive customer service who can walk you every step of the way if you aren’t sure what to do.

If You Have No Idea How to Build Websites

If your knowledge of building websites is like mine (almost zero), there’s a group of guys called the Free Website Guys. They can build your event website for you in exchange for a testimonial. They were the ones who designed my writing website. I’ve also recommended them to several people who have tried them, and they were all satisfied with the results, too.

Do All Events Need an Event Website?

That depends on several things.

If your event is on the smaller side and talking to the participants is manageable, and communication doesn’t get lost in the midst of everything else while you’re preparing for your event, then you might not need an event website.

If, however, you are constantly rolling out information or communicating changes regarding your event, you might want to create an event website just so your audience has something to refer to. It will be easier for you and your team to release information and communicate with your participants.
